BRET MICHAELS

Bret Michaels is, if nothing else, a true survivor.  He has survived a life long battle as an insulin dependent diabetic, a well publicized near fatal car crash in 1994 and the countless musical trends and fads of the last two decades.

“As soon as I ever start to just go through the motions I’ll quit,” confessed the 44 year old singer, songwriter, producer, director and actor in a recent interview.  But there’s little chance he’ll even slow down let alone quit anytime soon.  In fact, after more than 20 years in the business this award winning, multi platinum superstar’s career continues to move at warp speed.

As front man for the legendary rock band Poison, Michaels has sold 25 million records and scored an amazing 15 chartbusting Top 40 singles including “Talk Dirty to Me,” “Something to Believe In,” “Nothing But a Good Time” and the timeless #1 smash “Every Rose Has its Thorn.”  And in the new millennium Poison’s music has been featured in such big screen flicks as “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” “Grandma’s Boy” and “Deuce Bigelow-European Gigolo.” They continue to be one of the industry’s top grossing concert attractions and their 2006 “20 Years of Rock” CD was a bona fide Top 20 gold smash.  Their current single, a remake of the 1974 Grand Funk Railroad classic “We’re an American Band” was produced by Don Was (The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt).

Michaels has also produced and written material for other artists including Stevie Nicks.  He wrote and produced the song “Love’s a Hard Game to Play” which appeared on Nicks’ platinum album “Timespace: The Best Of Stevie Nicks.” More recently Michaels could be heard providing background vocals along with Phil Vassar on the Kenny Chesney/Uncle Kracker duet single “Last Night Again.”

In the mid-90s Michaels formed a film production company with actor Charlie Sheen.  The partnership ultimately led to Michaels writing, directing and starring in several films including “A Letter From Death Row” which he executive co-produced with Sheen.

As an actor, Michaels has made regular appearances on such hit television shows as “Yes Dear,” “Martial Law,” and “The Chris Isaak Show.”  And he has also co-hosted “Access Hollywood” and been a judge on the wildly popular “Nashville Star” program.

Setting his musical sights beyond Poison, Michaels released his debut solo album “Songs of Life” in 2003 followed by the rootsy, Americana flavored sophomore record “Freedom of Sound” in 2005.

“I would play music whether I made it or not,” Michaels told a journalist in 2002 and it’s that commitment to his art that continues to keep him at the forefront of the entertainment industry.

Buried in Eastern Kentucky is a small country town known as Campton.  The 1.1 mile town is the home to less than 450 and isn’t exactly the epicenter of major label musicians.  However, in 2005 five country boys had a dream of taking the acoustic rock they had written in their bedrooms to a national level.

Singer Gene Booth recruited Chad Hurlburt(guitars), Nate Lewis (drums) and Kevin Allen (bass) and started Stitch Rivet.  The 4-piece began playing locally and creating a buzz within the small town, but still dreamed of bigger crowds, new fans and big studio sounds.

The path would eventually lead Stitch Rivet up the Mountain Parkway to Lexington, KY.  It didn’t take long for Lexington to realize that these guys were the real deal.  Dedicated to their dreams, Stitch Rivet pushed forward, utilizing every outlet possible to promote themselves and their shows – on their own dime.  The devotion paid off with hundreds of rowdy fans jamming into Lexington’s A1A Concert Hall every time Stitch Rivet’s name was on the bill.

The attention the band was drawing in Lexington captured the attention of locally based Showhouse Productions LCC.  The company teamed with Stitch Rivet to produce two high quality music videos for fan favorites “Day by Day” & “Frankenstein.”  Showhouse Productions LCC also teamed up with Stitch Rivet to produce a live DVD shot at the A1A Concert Hall.

Stitch Rivet had achieved the goal of building a large fan base in Lexington, but still felt that a couple pieces of the puzzle were missing.  The band tapped veteran, Southern Kentucky guitarist John Hopkins to complete their line-up as they prepared to keep pushing forward.

With the new guitarist, Stitch Rivet set their eyes on building large fan bases in other markets.  The band traveled east on I-64 to play a couple shows in Huntington, WV.  Stitch Rivet played in front of small crowds, but still saw potential.  Manager Jay Booth had his mind set on making Stitch Rivet a common name in the West Virginia market.

It didn’t take long for that to happen.  Less than a year after Stitch Rivet’s first Huntington show they were invited to play WAMX’s (Clear Channel Radio) annual X-Fest festival with Avenged Sevenfold, Pop Evil & 8 other regional and national bands.

Drawing several hundred rock fans to their shows in multiple markets was big, but Stitch Rivet knew they needed something else — a high quality CD.

The 5-piece searched for the perfect match and finally settled on Glasgow, KY’s Barrick Recording Studios (Black Stone Cherry, Flynnville Train).  Stitch Rivet recorded for 10 weeks and helped Dave Barrick produce and mix the disc.  The 11 track album is complete and is currently being shopped by Richard Young’s (Kentucky Headhunters) Animal Management.

It all started with a couple acoustic guitars in a bedroom and now Stitch Rivet has evolved into a regional rock name.   The journey isn’t over…

It was just a dream – now look.

Stitch Rivet has shared the stage with Avenged Sevenfold, Shinedown, Chevelle, Tantric, Pop Evil, Drowning Pool, Adelitas Way, Egypt Central, Shadows Fall, Bobaflex, Framing Hanley, Evans Blue, Cavo & many more national acts.
