ARTS EDUCATION CLASSES

The Arts Education Department brings quality arts education and instruction to the eastern Kentucky region by providing the best possible programming.  The Mountain Arts Center believes that participation in the arts is vital to the development of our children and our communities.  Arts education enhances early childhood development, especially brain and motor coordination, inspire creativity and foster communication.

The arts are expressive and communicate directly to us.  Learning to know and use our imagination and learning the powerful resources of the arts is essential to a full life, a shared community and a healthy environment.  Moreover, participation in the arts often contributes to superior academic achievement in students.

The MAC’s Arts Education Department provides the children, teens and adults of eastern Kentucky with classroom education in music, art, drama, dance and digital photography and individual instruction in visual arts, piano, voice, violin/fiddle, guitar, banjo and mandolin.

Classes are offered in the Spring and the Fall of each year and vary in subject, price, and duration.  The commitment of both the staff and the instructors at the Mountain Arts Center allows the Arts Education Department to provide the highest quality of instruction and align our curriculum with the Kentucky Education Reform Act (KERA) thus reinforcing what is taught in public schools.

The Arts Education Department will continue to broaden the number and types of classes offered.  The addition of such a wide range of art disciplines from film workshops to video seminars to theatre, art, music, dance and digital photography underscores the dedication of the Mountain Arts Center in creating educational opportunities for everyone in the eastern Kentucky region.
